| | Release date: May, 1996 | |
| | Chronology: A 5-track promo only CD single featuring Mná na hÉireann, Kate's contribution to Donal Lunny's Common Ground project. The disc also includes 4 other (non-Kate) songs. | |
| | Mná na hÉireann Lyrics (Irish/English) | |
| | What it's about: A traditional Irish song about the beauty of the women of Ireland. (Apparently, there's nothing quite like 'em...) | |
| | Running time: 2:52 | |
| | Etc: The music to Mná na hÉireann was composed by Seán Ó Riada. The lyrics come from a traditional 18th century Irish poem by Peadar Ó Doirnín, called Women Of Ireland. Kate recorded the song in Irish (even though she doesn't speak the language). | |
| | Etc2: Perhaps predictably, reviews of her effort were all over the board, ranging from "impressive" (Hot Press), to "doesn't know what the hell she's going on about" (Irish Times). | |
| | Etc3: The project which this 5 track promotional disc was culled from, Common Ground, Voices Of Modern Irish Music, is a 13 track compilation featuring artists who are either Irish, or believed to have a spiritual/musical connection with the country. Kate agreed to participate at the request of its producer/arranger, Donal Lunny, with whom she had worked with before. (Lunny assisted on the Irish music parts of Hounds Of Love and The Sensual World). | |
| | Etc4: Mná na hÉireann was never released as a stand alone single. It only appears on this promotional 5 track disc and on the Common Ground CD itself. Since it's original release, it has also shown up on a number of other Celtic and/or Irish music compilations. Translation and other information about this song courtesy of Sean Twomey. | |
