December Will Be Magic Again was originally written in 1979, but it wasn't released until the end of 1980. In addition to the version on this single, another very different one exists (on CD) with bongos and slide whistles on the rhythm track. Neither have ever appeared on a Kate LP/CD (except for the box set), but both managed to find their way on to Christmas compilations in 1989, so the song is not included on my Non-LP/CD list.
A slightly different remix was released in late 1993 on the Moments Of Pleasure CD singles, shown here.
December Will Be Magic Again entered the UK chart in the third week of its release at #39.  It peaked at #29 one week later, on December 13, 1980.  It held that position for one week, and spent a total of seven weeks on the chart.
First pressings have "Cut by Chris Blair", "Songs & arrangements by Kate Bush", and "Cover by Nick Price" centered on the rear sleeve. Reissues have these acknowledgements spread out across the bottom. Originals also have "Happy Christmas" etched into the dead wax on side A. For more information on first pressings vs. reissues, look here.
In addition to this sleeve, Nick Price also did the drawings on Kate's Tour Of Life program, the Never for Ever LP/CD, and the swan on the back of the Sat In Your Lap single. (Here are a couple examples...)
